Poetry Slam!

Image
We wrapped up our Poetry unit with a little voluntary poetry slam last week!  I have been so impressed with the creativity and thoughtful ideas everyone has shared in their poetry.  They have learned to experiment with simile, rhyme, alliteration and onomatopoeia. We have written list poems, 6-word poems, haiku, and free verse. Each morning we started the day with a new poem to analyze and recite. Over time, students gained so much confidence and were able to ¨perform¨ the poetry with incredible voice and expression. Some even turned them into songs, singing solo for the whole class! Most importantly, I think everyone gained a true love for poetry!!  Mission accomplished!

Measurement

We are having lots of fun in during our math unit of measurement. Students have explored with non-standard units of measure and came to understand the need for the standard units we use today. We have been estimating and measuring in inches, feet and yards. We made some ¨giant¨ yard feet to measure some longer distances too!
