Paper Airplanes!

Image
We enlisted our resident paper airplane making experts for a little fun last week.  Teams designed their planes and then we had a little friendly competition. It was a windy which day, which made things a little extra exciting!

Collecting the Data

Scientists busy at work.... Will the mass of a marble affect how far it rolls? Will the length of the inclined plane affect how far a marble rolls? Will the height of the inclined plane affect how far a marble rolls?

Lab Report Time!

Image
After completing our 3rd marble roll experiment, our little scientists worked together to complete their final (independent) lab report. Lab reports contain:             * The Question you are curious about           *  A Hypothesis (What do you predict will happen and why?)           * Materials list and Set Up            * Detailed procedure           *  Data Table           * Claim (What you can you conclude?)           * Reasoning (Why you think you got the results you did?)            * Future Study (What did this experiment make you wonder about?)

Planting the SCS Gardens!

On Thursday afternoon we got busy in the dirt planting some tomatoes and marigolds. We learned about crop rotation and how some plants work together to produce the most bountiful harvests.  Thank you, Katie Natale, for all her work to help make it happen!!

Get Those Marbles Rolling!

Image
Last week students built marbles runs while experimenting with various heights, lengths of tubes and marbles masses.  They worked as a team to design, test and build their runs.  I was so impressed by their perseverance, teamwork and compromising skills!  This week we start some formal experiments, data collection and lab reports!
